BIOGRAPHY

Alison Mortiss

Alison's fascination with glass, as an artist's medium began back in 1991, when she undertook a WEA course in Leadlighting and Copperfoil.

Skill and passion resulted in Alison's first venture into the world of markets. It wasn't long before such exposure and word of mouth saw the requests for commission work, producing work that has found homes in Glenning Valley , Sydney , Laguana, Boree, Cooma, Harden, Canberra and Wollombi. Smaller pieces such as lampshades, bowls, platters and decorations have found themselves in collections in Britain , Ireland and the USA .

2001 saw the first commission to design and produce a commemorative leadlight window for the historic St Mark's Laguna, in memory of Les Sternbeck. Now in 2006, she is working on the fourth window for this church.

Alison has also contributed works to Dobell Festival, Tea Gardens Art Show and Kincumber Art Show, and as a member of eO Central Coast Artists, she has exhibited at the State Parliament House in 2005.

To further her studies, Alison has been accepted into a masterclass at Vetrate Artische Toscane in traditional glass painting during September 2006.

2009 saw Alison enrol in a Bachelor of Arts(Art) at Curtin University to further advance her art knowledge base. As she is undertaking this course part-time it will take some years to complete.

Along with continually experimenting with glass, new materials and techniques her skills are continually advancing, evident by her success in numerous art prizes in which she has participated
